The dedication ceremony took place on the parade grounds of the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark. As buildings grew taller, major cities required big rigs with large capacity pumps and ladders. However, some manufacturers continued to produce equipment needed by the volunteer fire departments of smaller cities and rural towns. Together, the two facets of America's fire apparatus industry served the needs of the growing country and ultimately became the supplier to the world. Designed by Chris Calle, the stamps were engraved through the intaglio process (B Press) by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and issued in coils of 500 and 3,000 (pre-canceled only).
